Tamil Nadu Braces for Relentless Heat as Met Predicts 2-3°C Surge Until March 19
Tamil Nadu faces a blistering few days ahead, with the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) forecasting temperatures soaring 2 to 3 degrees Celsius above average through March 19. The state’s mercury is set to hover between 34 and 36 degrees Celsius, though some pockets might bake under even fiercer heat.

The heatwave has already tightened its grip, with Karur Paramathi clocking a scorching 38.5 degrees Celsius on Monday. Other regions like Tirupattur, Chennai, Erode, and Madurai have also sizzled past 38 degrees, sparking worries about health hazards and prompting officials to sound the alarm with public advisories.
In Chennai, daytime highs are tipped to hit 34 to 35 degrees Celsius, dipping to a muggy 26 degrees at night. Partly cloudy skies might soften the sun’s glare, but the sticky heat persists. The Met Department’s latest bulletin urges residents to stay vigilant and adopt precautions to cope.
While North Coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal bake under dry skies, patches of Interior and South Coastal Tamil Nadu have caught fleeting showers.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) notes a trough stretching from Central Chhattisgarh to North Interior Karnataka, hovering 0.9 km above sea level, paired with another dipping from North Interior Karnataka to Interior Kerala. This setup could sprinkle light to moderate rain across parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal soon. Yet, these scattered drops are unlikely to douse the relentless heatwave.
With the thermostat climbing, Tamil Nadu’s health officials are urging people to hunker down indoors during the brutal afternoon peak, sip water generously, and don airy fabrics to dodge heatstroke and exhaustion.
